Product Overview

The CQ-3270® connectivity solution offers MBSCC participants with IBM® SNA 3270 interactive terminal emulation access to Securities Industry Automation Corporation (SIAC) mainframes.  MBSCC participants can then transfer print data and other information through CQ’s advanced Graphical User Interface (GUI).  The solution provides simple and convenient connectivity from any remote workstation running a Microsoft® Windows® 32-bit operating system.  These operating systems include Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT®, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.

CQ-3270 is also available for connectivity from any remote or local network server running a Microsoft Windows server operating system.  Depending on the server’s type of hardware connection, these operating systems include Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows 2000 Server, and Windows Server™ 2003.

CQ-3270 Features

Along with standard SNA 3270 terminal emulation, CQ-3270 offers outstanding features in the following areas:

• Interactive GUI Interface.
  The user-friendly interface makes installation, configuration, and use of CQ-3270 simple and easy to understand.  Interface components such as drop-down menus, customizable toolbars, clearly identified buttons, and context sensitive help can be found throughout the software.
• Customizable Features.
  The customizable toolbar and floating SmartKey Pad allow users convenient and quick access to common 3270 terminal commands that may not be easily accessible from a standard PC keyboard.  For example, most PC keyboards do not contain keys to access 3270 terminal commands such as Clear, Reset, and PA1.  The buttons located on the toolbar and SmartKey Pad perform any commands, including common 3270 terminal commands, and can be easily customized to fit session specific applications.  The CQ-3270 solution comes with special instructions written specifically for MBSCC participants on how to configure these options for quick access to print data from the SIAC mainframe.
• Printer Support.
  CQ-3270 supports any laser printer that is supported by the Windows operating system.  Customizable print features such as the number of lines and columns and page orientation can easily be setup through the software.  CQ-3270 also supports the Windows operating system print spooler so the user can print multiple jobs.  Up to eight concurrent printers are also supported by the software.  The software also supports older legacy printers for uses that require raw line prints.
• Connection Options.
  CQ-3270 displays its flexibility through its hardware connection options.  The most convenient solution utilizes OPTIMA™ modems with the AutoSync™ 2 feature for connectivity over dial-up lines.  These unique modems automatically perform the sync/async conversion that is necessary for host connectivity without the need to open the PC and install an additional internal synchronous adapter card.  For users that require adapter-card based connectivity, the CQ-Sync100™ PCI adapter card solution is also available.

Additional Features

• Interface Screen.  The Interface screen’s interactive console area is where CQ’s 3270 terminal emulation occurs. Interactive commands and messages are entered and received through the console area.  The type of session, either an LU2 display or an LU1/LU3 printer, is determined by the mainframe when the session is bound to the mainframe.  A separate Emulator screen appears for each session that you create.
• Configurator.  CQ’s Configurator program allows users to quickly and easily set communication options.  Most of these options are set from one screen, the opening CQ Configuration screen.  Users can generally set the necessary options from this screen within a matter of minutes.  The Configurator program can be used to create configurations for multiple sites that may require a different set of communications options.
• Security Features.  CQ-3270 is equipped with numerous security features.  Certain areas of the program are password protected.  The configuration data is decrypted dependent upon the proper entry of the correct password.  Dial-back security is also supported.  Also, for the ultimate in secure communications, the Triple Data Encryption Standard (DES) CQurity™ option is available as an option at an additional cost.
• CQ Keyboard Remapper.  IBM’s Standard and Enhanced PC keyboards are supported through CQ’s graphical remapping utility program.  The user can easily assign key definitions to fit specific application requirements.
• Color, Font, and Cursor Attributes.  Users can also customize the color, font, and cursor attributes for each session through CQ’s simple display customization procedures.  Features include over 16 million background and foreground colors, automatic font sizing that automatically resizes fonts depending on the size of the Emulator screen, numerous fonts to choose from, and special cursor features.
• Scripting and Scheduling for Unattended Operation.  CQ’s scripting language allows automated and unattended CQ-3270 host site communications through customized scripts and scheduling features.  Unattended automation facilities make host site communications more cost effective than normal attended operation.
• Multiple Simultaneous LU Devices.  CQ’s 3270 solution provides emulation of multiple concurrent Logical Unit (LU) devices.  These include emulation of LU2 (IBM 3278/3279 Model 2, 3, 4, or 5 display) and LU1/LU3 (IBM 3287 host printer) type devices.
• IND$FILE File Transfers.  CQ-3270 implements IBM’s IND$FILE specifications for sending and receiving files.  Files can be transferred in either text or binary formats.  The solution supports multiple background, simultaneous bi-directional file transfers that substantially increase data throughput.
• CQ Diagnostics.  CQ-3270 provides accessible communications logging features through its audit and trace options.  These features are used for tracking the user’s data transfers and include time stamps, file send and receive information, and file size information.
• Automatic Features.  CQ’s 3270 solution provides auto-dialing and auto-answer support for a wide range of modems and devices.  Also, CQ’s automatic file naming feature allows users to accept an unknown number of files by naming each received file with a unique extension.
• CQ Access Point Agreement (CQ’s Annual License Activation and Software Maintenance Agreement). CQ recognizes the importance of providing our customers with access to comprehensive technical services and support.  CQ also feels that access to product upgrades and updates is an integral part of an organization’s overall software deployment strategy. With this in mind, CQ provides the CQ Access Point agreement to its customers. With each license acquisition, you receive annual license activation as well as access to the product upgrade and technical support features of Software Maintenance.

Connection Descriptions

Remote synchronous connectivity from an MBSCC participant to a SIAC mainframe is accomplished easily from any remote PC, laptop, or notebook workstation running the CQ-3270 solution.

1. The MBSCC participant loads the customized CQ-3270 software onto the remote PC, laptop, or notebook computer.
2. Each CQ-3270 connectivity solution for MBSCC participants is equipped with a primary communications driver that is based on the participant’s hardware configuration.  Hardware configuration options include either an AutoSync 2 modem or a CQ-Sync100 PCI adapter card and external synchronous modem.  Depending on the hardware configuration, the participant installs the hardware:

• AutoSync 2 Users.  The participant connects a Hayes™ OPTIMA modem with the AutoSync 2 feature to the PC, laptop, or notebook computer.  You can be assured that the CQ-3270 software for AutoSync 2 dial-up connections is unsurpassed in quality because CQ Computer Communications, Inc. is a certified Hayes Software Partner.  The way that the modem is connected depends on the type of OPTIMA modem.  External modems are connected through a serial COM port.  Internal modems are installed into an internal ISA slot.  PCMCIA modems are inserted into a PCMCIA slot.  For external and PCMCIA OPTIMA modems, no internal adapter card is required as the modem automatically performs the sync/async conversion.

• CQ-Sync100 PCI Users.  The participant installs the CQ-Sync100 PCI internal adapter card into a PCI slot inside the remote PC.  Then, the participant connects the external Bell 208 compatible modem to the installed CQ-Sync100 PCI card through the RS-232 cable that came with the CQ-Sync100 PCI card.

3. The MBSCC participant uses the special instructions that came with the solution to enter the communications options through CQ’s Configurator program.
4. The MBSCC participant transmits data (print, etc.) to and from the SIAC mainframe site through the CQ-3270 software.  Communications occurs over dial-up lines at speeds of 9600 to 33,600 bps using the V.32 (or higher) protocol.

Specifications

Workstation (PC, Notebook, etc.) or Server Requirements

• Processor.  CQ recommends an Intel Pentium/Celeron family processor, AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family processor, or compatible processor with a speed of at least 1.0 GHz or higher.
• Memory.  CQ recommends at least 128 MB or higher of RAM.
• Hard Drive.  CQ recommends at least 10 MB of available hard disk space.
• Operating System.  The workstation’s operating system must be a Windows 32-bit operating system (i.e., Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, etc.).  CQ-3270 for servers users must be using Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows 2000 Server, or Windows Server 2003.
• Peripherals.  The monitor, keyboard, mouse, and CD ROM drive must be compatible with the current operating system.
• Hardware.  Depending on the connection type, a Hayes OPTIMA modem with the AutoSync 2 feature and available COM port may be required.  Available modems include, OPTIMA 56K External , OPTIMA 336 External, OPTIMA 56K Internal, and OPTIMA 336 PCMCIA.  For users that require the adapter-card based connectivity solution, the CQ-Sync100™ PCI adapter card and an external V.32 synchronous modem are required.

Mainframe/Host End Requirements

• The host computer must be an IBM mainframe, midrange, or compatible host.  The systems supported include VM/CMS, DOS/VSE, MVS/TSO, and CICS.
