CQ Success Story

Trading Partners Transmit Electronic EDI Files through CQ/OPTIMA™ Solution

CQ’s 3780 software and Hayes™ OPTIMA™ modems provide banks, service bureaus, and other institutions the means to inexpensively process EDI transmissions with accuracy and limited user intervention or technical knowledge.

CQ Computer Communications, Inc. (www.cq-comm.com) and Zoom® Telephonics, Inc. (www.hayesmicro.com) provide cost-effective connectivity solutions for remote trading partners around the world.  The solutions utilize the efficiencies of the standardized Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) interface to automate the exchange of data between remote clients and mainframe host sites.

CQ and Hayes Provide EDI Connectivity

CQ and Hayes™ products offer the perfect solution for the transmission of EDI applications.  EDI is based on a set of standard formats that define transaction sets or messages that can be used to send and receive basic business data from one computer to another.  In the case of CQ and Hayes, this involves connectivity between remote PC sites (usually vendors and suppliers) and the central mainframe host sites (usually large corporations).

The most commonly used CQ/Hayes solution for EDI connectivity is CQ-3780®/Hayes OPTIMA™.  The solution is comprised of CQ’s 3780 software, customized scripts, and a Hayes OPTIMA modem.

CQ Software - Complete 3780/2780 Terminal Emulation

CQ’s 3780/2780 Binary Synchronous Communications/Remote Job Entry (BSC/RJE) Windows connectivity solution provides advanced synchronous PC-to-host access.  CQ-3780 controls EDI file transfers accurately and quickly through a specially designed, operator friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI).  The solution has been designed specifically for Microsoft’s® popular 32-bit Windows® operating systems, including Windows 2000, Windows NT®, Windows 98, and Windows 95.

Other features that make the CQ-3780 solution an industry leader include easy configuration of communications parameters through CQ’s configuration program, fast file transfers over dial-up lines, support for any Windows operating system printer, and automatic features such as auto-dial, auto-answer, and automatic file naming.

Customized Communications with Host Sites

Depending on the mainframe host site, many of these solutions have been customized with easily accessible scripts that make electronic transmissions of EDI forms fast and easy for remote clients.  These host sites include discount stores, department stores, service bureaus (ADP, Ceridian), and investment firms.

Each of these host mainframe sites utilizes standard EDI forms for different all types of host applications.  CQ’s customized scripts incorporate these needs into the user interface to allow clients to easily communicate with the mainframe sites.  EDI forms such as 214s (Motor Bills of Lading), 810s (Invoices), and 850s (Purchase Orders) are transmitted easily through CQ’s software between the client PCs and the host sites.

Hayes OPTIMA™ Modems - The Easy Way to Communicate

The OPTIMA™ 56K and 336 external and internal modems are equipped with the AutoSync™ 2 feature that automatically performs the sync/async conversion that is required for host communications.  Through the AutoSync 2 feature in these modems, there is no additional hardware required on the PC end.  Other host connectivity solutions require you to purchase and install an additional internal synchronous adapter card.  The CQ/Hayes solution DOES NOT require an additional internal adapter card.

The use of OPTIMA modems provides a cost savings of up to 40% when compared to adapter card based solutions.  Other benefits and features include synchronous dial-up speeds up to 33.6 Kbps, asynchronous capabilities for other applications such as e-mail or Internet access, easy setup, and portability for notebook and laptop users.
